Art Vaughan
Contemporary Artist
Art from the heart.
Art for the soul.
I create paintings, mixed media works and collages which evoke a sense of place or mood, appeal to the imagination and provoke deeper reflection.
The President of the New Zealand Academy described my recent paintings as "cosmic, powerful and challenging works" (Greg Chaston, Solo48 Catalogue September 2020).
I rely on the power of suggestion, rather than depiction. My images are often multi-layered and reward the viewer who spends time with them.
My art works usually begin from some visual stimulus and are developed within a compositional structure and general sense of mood, until the magical moment when the work develops its own momentum. From that point on, I respond intuitively to the developing art work.
My latest project is an image and text exploration of Walls: Part 1, Ambiguities; Part 2, Stories; Part 3, Life; Part 4, Traces
